Interactive Faith – Mysterious Marriage

Beginning in February 2017, couples will have the opportunity to build their marriage on the gospel of Jesus through the next Interactive Faith Bible study entitled “Mysterious Marriage.” Led by Rev. Randy Hunter, who conducts marriage enrichment seminars around the country, this study will examine how the gospel gives you the power to be married and how marriage gives you a way to show the gospel.

This four-week study will be streamed live twice every Wednesday night between Feb. 1 and Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. (central). Set up a “date night” for couples at your church or encourage couples to participate at home.

Marriage Enrichment – Healthy Marriage

Public health leaders have identified “dimensions of public health” – things in society that promote health, prevent disease and prolong life.

Jesus has identified “dimensions of a healthy marriage” – things that promote health in marriage. As it turns out, the same factors that contribute to a healthy life with Jesus contribute to a healthy marriage.

Healthy Marriage will help you learn those “dimensions of a healthy marriage.” More than that, Healthy Marriage will equip to you to practice them and maintain the health of your marriage long after this memorable weekend get-away.

Marriage Enrichment – Richer Marriage

Jesus designed marriage and can make your marriage richer than you imagined.  Spend a weekend finding out how.  Prior to the weekend, you will each complete a confidential online survey and receive a customized report on ten areas of your married life.  Then you’ll spend the weekend applying the riches of God’s grace to the areas of your marriage in which you’re strong…and in which you have room to grow.  The result?  A richer marriage.

Marriage Enrichment – Mysterious Marriage

Get away together…
to unravel the mystery of marriage. Your marriage.

Have you heard someone say, “Marriage shouldn’t be this hard.” Who says so? An aspiring pro baseball player would never say, “Hitting a fastball shouldn’t be so hard!” An aspiring novelist wouldn’t say, “It shouldn’t be so hard to create compelling characters.” So why is marriage so hard?

Here’s God’s own answer, “Marriage is a profound mystery.”

Marriage is a profound mystery.

In Ephesians 5:32 Paul calls marriage literally, a “mega-mystery.” The word mystery is sometimes translated secret. In some ways, that’s a better word. Mystery seems to imply it can’t be solved. Secret means there is an answer and it’s entirely possible to know it.

It’s entirely possible for you to know, feel and act on the secret to a great marriage.

What’s the mystery/secret?

God had in mind the gospel of Jesus when he designed marriage. Then he used marriage to teach the gospel. The gospel is this: you are more sinful and flawed than you ever knew and yet in Jesus you are more loved by God than you ever dreamed. The truth about marriage is this: you and your spouse are not compatible. But you are forgiven and received by Jesus to forgive and keep each other. The gospel gives you the power to be married. Marriage gives you a way to show the gospel. In fact, your marriage will only work to the degree that you appreciate and follow the pattern of God’s selfless love in Christ. Do for your spouse as God has done for you; the rest will follow. But how?

Unravel the mystery together

Who can? Your Lord. He’s over all, he’s seen it all, and most of all, he can help you through it all. He wants to. He brought you to himself at the high price of his Son. He brought you to your spouse and dearly wants what is best for you both. Together.

Marriage Enrichment – Simply Marriage

Practice simple actions to build your marriage.

1. Overcome frustration
Faith moves us from frustrated over God’s ways to curious about God’s ways. Become more curious and less frustrated with your spouse.

2. Appreciate incompatibility
We are all incompatible because we’re fallen. But incompatibility is grounds for marriage. Learn to put your spouse and his/her happiness ahead of your own; as Jesus has done for you.

3. Break patterns that destroy oneness
The two shall become one; but there’s an enemy. Learn how to break common patterns that war against your oneness:  escalation, invalidation, negative interpretation and withdrawal/avoidance.

4. Use words that work
Move from monologue to dialogue, learn how to initiate a behavior change request, cut the negativity and communicate appreciation.

5. Grow more intimate
Build your intimacy in ways that most couples can’t dream of: in your faith, in your friendship and in your sex and sensuality.
